Some folks say the dirt bike/ATV issue is better this year, but it truly depends on where you live. We see no police North of Rte 80 and as a consequence there are dirt bikes and ATVs (ridden by toddlers, kids, adults...sometimes adults with babies) tearing down side streets, main streets, into Bishop Woods Bird Sanctuary and other parks and open spaces (which they destroy)...anywhere they like. They're on Foxon Hill Road, Weybosset, Quinnipiac Ave, Hawthorne, Roosevelt, etc. When we ask for patrols, NHPD act like they're doing us a favor. We ARE part of New Haven, even if we're on the North Haven edge. "Tell us where they're garaged", says the NHPD. They know. Yet still nothing. It's ILLEGAL. Even the Register printed a photo 9/16 of a 9 yr old riding his dirt bike through Ashmun Park like he was on a bicycle. All this does is encourage more of this behavior. I shouldn't have to smell their exhaust in my yard, listen to the drone of their engines day and night (school? What's school?), and have a five year old on a quad almost hit me as I drive my car up my own street.
